Getting hooked on the cold and how it served as a catalyst for exponential growth…

In early 2020, it was my therapist who challenged me on my relationship with drinking. Helped me question what good it was doing for me.
She also cautioned me that if I were to quit drinking and experience any withdrawal symptoms (after all, I was drinking most days), that I should stick my hands in a sink full of ice water.
‘hmmmm. What an interesting concept.’ So I took to google, started learning more about the cold and how it could help me.
Then I found a Goop series by Gwenyth Paltrow and one of the episodes was on Wim Hof.
This guy is known as the IceMan. A dutch athlete and extreme wellness advocate. He developed the Wim Hof Method which is a combination of specific breathing exercises, cold exposure, and meditation techniques that enhance physical and mental well being.
The very next week, I enrolled in a Wim Hof Fundamentals Course.
We did intensive breath work for 3 hours and concluded the day with a cold plunge.
After that class, I felt calm, relaxed, relief, proud, astonished. I didn't think that I would be able to do breath work for that long, with retentions of up to a minute, let alone my first cold plunge I was in for 3 minutes!
It’s also where I met my first mentor Claire who helped me create an unshakeable foundation of self, taught me to embrace ease on demand, and that life gets to be a party.
I haven’t missed a day of cold therapy since. Discipline + Devotion. How WELL I handle the daily stress of life is directly attributed to this daily practice that takes under 5 minutes.
Three and a half years later, I’m BEYOND EXCITED to be hosting my own cold plunge experiences.
