I binged 7 hours straight of netflix….

I sat on the couch for seven hours watching Netflix. SEVEN hours of consuming something that I am getting very little return on investment.

I actually started to panic toward the end, ‘I can’t believe I just watched seven hours.’

‘This is not how I want to live my life’.

And to be honest I felt so gross. All things I uttered to myself in that moment of panic.

Then it switches to worry - about the reasons why I might have just spent so many hours lost in consumption. That as a coach who often talks about not doing something like this, numbing out, I felt so inauthentic.

I started to hate myself for not doing something more productive.

I started to get snappy with my partner as if he’s supposed to govern my screen time.

I became disappointed in myself for not doing the things that I know will make me feel better.

What DiD I do next?

I had to do a values check. Make sure that how I’m living and the actually day to day, minute to minute things I’m doing, are in alignment with my values.

This is important for a few reasons.

Reason 1: If you don’t have values, you need them. They provide significant direction in the choices you make.

Reason 2: Reassessment of the values you created periodically are critical for continued growth. Something you valued five years ago might have shifted based on information you have now.

Reason 3: To see if you’re following through to live (from an energetic, time, and financial perspective) in accordance with those values.

When you have a perceived value system and you’re not living accordingly, that’s one of the main reasons my clients come to me feeling lost, inauthentic, and like a fraud.

The universe gives you what you need

What’s fun about this whole situation… The universe provided me with exactly what I needed. I bought the book 'Modern Guide to Energy Clearing' by Barbara Moore on a friday, inexplicably drawn to it in the store. It was that sunday that I watched the 7 hours of netflix. Within the first chapter there was this exercise on values.

Here’s how you get clear on your values and/or bring it back to alignment (adapted from the Modern Guide to Energy Clearing By Barbara Moore). Grab your journal or a note in your phone and reflect on:

1) What are your values as you understand them right now?

2) Write out your schedule for a typical day

3) Write out your monthly budget

4) How are the items in question 1 reflected in the lists from 2 and 3?

5) Based on 2 and 3, what might someone assume your values are?

That will give you a an excellent guide post about where you’re at in your value system.

This is what I discovered after the exercise.

What’s interesting is a few things. I’m actually living super aligned with my values. On a TYPICAL day, Im hitting pretty much everything. As a result, I feel good. I’m proud of myself.

This 7 hours was a non typical day. Which meant I had to take it easy on myself. But also, I had to learn to moderate on those non typical days. This is something that I can now apply going forward.

What I hope you got from this….

At the end of the day, living in alignment with your values isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being aware. That seven-hour Netflix binge wasn’t me blowing up the value systems i’ve created or the life I’m living; it was a moment to reflect, to check in with myself, and to remind myself of what truly matters.

When I stepped back and looked at the bigger picture, I realized I am living in alignment 99% of the time. And that meant I didn’t need to beat myself up over one off day—I just needed to approach it with curiosity instead of self-judgment.

If you ever feel lost, stuck, or misaligned, take a step back. Do the values exercise. See where you’re truly showing up for yourself and where you might need a small shift.

Because the goal isn’t perfection—it’s living with intention.

Now, if you feel resistance while reading this—if you’ve been in that spot on the couch, watching all the Netflix, knowing you want to be doing something more but not sure how to get out of your own way… consider the Resistance Report.

There’s a reason you’re using that to pacify yourself, and together, we can uncover it. Let’s shift the pattern, so you can stop feeling stuck and start moving toward alignment.

Check it out here – on sale until March 31, 2025.

In the meantime, breathe it in, be deliberate, and please be good to yourself.
