How Creating Space Leads to Clarity, Confidence, and Rapid Growth
October 15, 2024
We’ve all been there… That feeling where the walls feel like they’re closing in, and no matter how hard you try, you’re stuck in the details—overthinking, overanalyzing, and stressing about every little thing. When we’re too close to the situation, we lose sight of the bigger picture, and suddenly, those small things start to consume us.
In relationships, it’s the little things, like the unspoken expectations or those minor slights, that start to weigh us down.
At work, it’s getting caught up in the mistakes, or worse—what we perceive as failures. And within ourselves, it’s that nagging feeling that we’re just not ever doing enough.
We become trapped in this tunnel vision, and before we know it, we're overwhelmed and disconnected from what really matters.
When you create space, you start to see things differently. Space is what allows you to step back, breathe, and take in the bigger picture. It’s that moment of clarity you didn’t even realize you needed.
You’re Too Close
When you’re too close to something, you lose perspective. Your world shrinks, and all the little details that don’t really matter take over. In relationships, it’s easy to get caught up in tiny annoyances—maybe your partner didn’t say the right thing, or they forgot that one thing you mentioned. And suddenly, those small moments start to define your connection, pulling you further away from ease and flow.
At work, it’s focusing on what’s not going right. A missed deadline or a small mistake can feel like the end of the world. And even when everything is fine, we can convince ourselves that we’re failing, just because we're caught up in what we think should be happening.
And when it comes to our inner landscape, tunnel vision is the voice telling us we’re falling short. You know that feeling? The one where you’re just not doing enough, or that constant pressure to be more, do more, achieve more.
Fuck, it’s exhausting.
We lose sight of how far we’ve come and hyper-focus on what’s missing.
Why Creating Space is So Important
When you create space, you are giving yourself permission to step back and breathe. Suddenly, you’re not in the weeds anymore—you’re able to see things for what they really are. Space = clarity.
In relationships, when you create space, you stop getting caught up in the little annoyances and start seeing the whole picture again. Instead of focusing on what’s not going right, you remember why you’re together in the first place—the love, the connection, the shared experiences. You create room for ease, for communication, and for trust.
At work, space gives you the ability to shift your focus from mistakes and “failures” to what’s actually going well. You start seeing challenges as just part of the process, not a reflection of your worth. Creating space gives you room to breathe, assess, and move forward without the constant pressure to be perfect.
Within yourself, creating space is an act of compassion. It lets you take a step back and recognize that you’re human—that you’re doing your best, and that’s enough. When you give yourself space, you start appreciating where you are, instead of constantly feeling like you’re falling short. You can breathe, relax, and just be for a moment.
Space = Speed
Here’s the beautiful irony: when you slow down and create space, you actually gain momentum. As my father says in racing, slow is fast. You get clarity, focus, and the ability to make decisions that move you forward with purpose. It’s like clearing out the clutter—once you have room to breathe, everything falls into place.
With space, you can see the whole picture. You stop reacting and start responding. You focus on what truly matters, and that’s where the magic happens—because suddenly, you’re moving forward with ease and flow. You’re not stuck in the tiny details anymore, you’re aligned with your bigger vision (if you don’t have a bigger vision, I can help with that too).
How to Start Creating Space
Take a step back - When you feel overwhelmed, literally step away from the situation. Whether it’s a relationship, work, or your own inner dialogue, create some distance. Walk, breathe, pause—give yourself that break to see things from a different angle.
Ask what really matters - When you’re stuck in the details, ask yourself: “Is this really what matters?” Nine times out of ten, the answer is no. Refocus on the bigger picture—your goals, your relationships, your well-being.
Practice letting go - Sometimes, creating space means letting go of control. We can’t manage every little detail, and that’s okay. Allow yourself to trust that things will work out, even if you don’t have your hands on the wheel 24/7.
When you create space, you give yourself the gift of perspective. And from that place of clarity, you find focus, direction, and ultimately, the speed you’ve been craving.
So, slow down. Make room. And watch how fast things start to fall into place.
